Patented by a breeder strong and fluorescent leg bands
Alan Coraud, a milk producer and wine grower in the Loire-Atlantique region of France, has invented a new leg band to identify cows requiring special monitoring or treatment. These ‘Sécurit'Lait’ bracelets have two original features: a fluorescent colour and a loop through which the Velcro strap is passed before folding in on itself. The result: good visibility and a very solid fit.
The "Sécurit'Lait" legbands have been patented by Alan Coraud.
The fastening system combines a rigid buckle and a 4 cm wide Velcro strap. "This means there is very little risk of the wristband coming off accidentally".
Placed on the legs, the leg bands come in a set of four colours: pink for cows undergoing antibiotic treatment, green for dry cows and heifers preparing for calving, yellow for colostrum periods, orange for cows with various problems (a nervous cow, for example). This colour code also appears on a wall chart (divided into four boxes of four colours) on which is written the name of the cow wearing a particular bracelet, as well as the date of the last separate milking or the date of calving... These charts are available in a cardboard version (4 to 5 F a sheet) or laminated and therefore erasable (70 F). The recommended retail price for a wristband is 10 francs excluding VAT. The ‘Sécurit'Lait’ wristbands have already been referenced in several dairies: Cana, Elnor, Ulpac, Laiterie de Montaigu, Ucal/Ulco. There is also a smaller, white, write-on model for identifying goats.
